UNVEILING THE BEAUTY OF SHIMLA & MANALI : A TRAVEL GUIDE 

         Soon after our mind blowing tours of south India, in February 2024 we decided to have a grand tour to the state of Himalayan wonderland – Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh is one of the northernmost state in India and one of the major tourist destination cities are Shimla and Manali. Although it is generally freezing cold during the winter months, it was rather pleasant to be here in June when the rest of the States in the Country are witnessing early monsoon showers.

            It’s a one week trip. Although a week is not enough to explore both Shimla and Manali. But we are looking for a relaxing gateway from the daily hustle and bustle of life. So I planned this one week trip to Shimla and Manali with Naren and Afzal Bhai. 

            We booked flight tickets from Hyderabad to New Delhi and vice versa and also booked a Ertiga seven seated vehicle for whole trip from De transporters travel agent. We started our journey from Gadwal to Hyderabad at mid night and catching a flight from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Delhi Airport. At morning 9:00 Pm we had breakfast and started our journey to Shimla in travel vehicle towards Chandigarh.

At a Hyderabad Airport

       Our adventure kicked off at the Delhi airport. After a quick refuel, we embarked on our road trip towards Shimla, with Chandigarh as a pitstop. The journey itself was a visual treat. Lush green landscapes gradually gave way to rolling hills, painting a picture of serenity. The anticipation of reaching Shimla's cool embrace grew with every passing mile. 

        Finally, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting an ethereal glow on the sky, we arrived in Shimla at 7:00 PM. Our cozy haven for the next two nights awaited us - Hotel Meraki. Stepping into the hotel was like stepping into a haven of comfort.

        Himachal Pradesh! It's a stunning state known for its breathtaking landscapes, serene hill stations, and rich cultural heritage. Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, is a popular tourist destination, famous for its colonial architecture, Mall Road, and scenic views of the Himalayas.

    Apart from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh is home to many other beautiful hill stations like Manali, Dharamshala, and McLeod Ganj. Each of these places offers its own unique charm and attractions, ranging from adventure sports to spiritual retreats.

    The state is also known for its vibrant culture, with various festivals celebrated throughout the year, such as the Kullu Dussehra, Shimla Summer Festival, and Losar (Tibetan New Year).

    Nature lovers will find plenty to explore in Himachal Pradesh, from lush green valleys to snow-capped peaks, dense forests, and glistening rivers. Trekking, camping, paragliding, and skiing are just some of the outdoor activities that attract adventure enthusiasts to this region.

  Overall, Himachal Pradesh is a paradise for travelers seeking tranquility, adventure, and a glimpse of India's natural beauty.

        On Day 1 of our tour, we woke up early morning and the present day was solely dedicated to admire the beauty of Shimla. we had Breakfast at the South Indian Hotel which is on the way of our journey to Kufri. It was a good idea to start with the tiring activities first and that brought us up to Kufri. On our way towards Kufri, it was rather unusual for a metropolitan resident like me to see numerous houses built on top of sky rising mountains which leaped straight towards the deep valleys. 

        The mountainous roads gave us chills inside to see deep valleys just a few inches away from us. It was indeed a breathtaking experience. We came across several mountains, schools, colleges, government buildings, temples, hotels, houses and private offices. This is the specialty of a hill station like Shimla.

       After 15 Km of journey we reached New Kufri Adventure Resort. It is a small resort by international standards, however the place is worth a visit. All types of adventure sports are available for children and adults with a few shops selling Himachal fruit products, antiques, jewelry etic. Clean restaurants are available in this resort.

    The place is entertaining but a bit too expensive, Entry fees Rs. 300/- per head and rides are expensive too. If you take few rides then entry fee is free. Here u can enjoying variety of fun rides bungee jumping, Bumping cars, Go-karting, Spinning wheel, hunted house, mirror house and many more games. At the ticket counter we purchased tickets for three member Rs. 2400.00. At this rates we just takes very selected two rides for each one and only once to experience the ride, they are not allow the rides to enjoy multiple times. 

    After spending two hours of time here we started our journey to Kufri and  reached early.

Horse Riding at Kufri

  Kufri :

            Kufri is a small hill station located in the Shimla district of the state of Himachal Pradesh. It situated at an elevation of approximately 8,200 feet above seal level, making it one of the highest points in the Shimla region. It  welcomes adventure enthusiasts from across the globe, This offers picturesque views of snow clad mountains, making it a must visit spot in this Tour package. 

 This is the most delightful way to explore the mystical town of Kufri is by riding on Horse. We feel the excitement of riding a horse and experience the thirst of exploring the place which makes it an unforgettable experience. 

    At main road we parked our vehicle and purchased tickets for hosrse riding and activities for each Rs. 1000/-. We rides on horses at Mahasu Peak which is a 15 minute ride on a terribly rugged path that slopes ominously in some places. Our guide tells us when to bend our body forward or backward on the way of horse riding. 

    We reached at the top of the hill station and visited shopping area and temples of the hill station. Further we moved to Royal Elante Adventure park on Vehicle which is charged for each one Rs. 200/- due to narrow and muddy roads. After entry in this Adventure park we done zip lining, Sky swinger and Yak ride activities. we can also enjoy scenic walks through the captivating landscapes.

            After spending 2-3 hours on this hill station we moved back to Shimla towards Lakkar Bazar. At evening we went to Mall Road. 

Ridge - Mall Road :  

        At evening we headed towards the Mall road, which we accessed by ascending through the lift installed for the purpose, the charges for which are@ Rs.20/- per person for ascending and @ Rs.20/- per person for descending. We had to endure a long queue at the two stages of the lift to reach the top. However, the Mall was over crowded and people were jostling with each other for some space.

The Ridge & Mall Road : Shimla

         Apart from these, the main attractions of Shimla are the Mall road & The Ridge, which houses the Kali Bari, Churches & Cathedrals and shopping arcades all along, while the latter presents astounding views of Shimla & around.

           The Ridge, a spacious open space located in the heart of Shimla, serves as the cultural hub of the town. Flanked by lush greenery and colonial-era buildings, this expansive stretch offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, making it a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike.

        Mall Road is a shopper's paradise, offering an eclectic mix of souvenirs, handicrafts, woolens, and local artifacts. From traditional Himachali shawls to exquisite wooden handicrafts, the shops here abound with treasures waiting to be discovered.  

        At this large open space we relaxed on benches and taken some photographs. It brilliantly lit in the early evening darkness, seemed amazing to our much travelled eyes. we saw the town hall, Gaiety Theatre. Church and iconic Ashiana Restaurant in the premises of Mall. At late night we came back to our hotel room and had dinner in hotel restaurant with south Indian food which was very tasty. 

        We woke early morning, had breakfast  and check out our hotel room which was stayed in two nights here. The Meraki Hotel is best hotel to stay with family as well as friends because hotel owner and staff are very polite and their maintenance also is very good. 

        We moved for today's destinations are Kasol and Manikaran which was 270 Km away between the Shimla and Manali.

Manikaran

Exploring the Mystical Charms of Kasol and Manikaran : 

    Nestled in the majestic Parvati Valley of Himachal Pradesh, lies a hidden gem that beckons travelers with its serene beauty and spiritual aura - Kasol and its neighboring town, Manikaran. Tucked away amidst towering pine forests and snow-capped peaks, these quaint Himalayan villages offer a captivating blend of natural splendor, cultural diversity, and spiritual significance. In this blog, we embark on a journey to unravel the mystical charms of Kasol and Manikaran.

Kasol : The Mini Israel of India :

      Known as the "Mini Israel of India," Kasol attracts a diverse crowd of backpackers, trekkers, and nature enthusiasts from around the world. Surrounded by lush greenery and the gurgling waters of the Parvati River, Kasol exudes a laid-back vibe that instantly puts visitors at ease. The village is dotted with cozy cafes serving delectable Israeli cuisine, vibrant markets selling colorful handicrafts, and guesthouses offering breathtaking views of the valley.

        Kasol as a heaven or a tiny hamlet in the middle of Parvati Valley, Himachal Pradesh. Until I travelled to Kasol. I also fantasized Kasol as a misty village. we would find many cafes, camps, and restaurants at the Parvati River bank. This is a huge destination for backpackers and travelers from around the globe.

Manikaran: A Sacred Piligrimage :

        A short drive from Kasol lies the holy town of Manikaran, revered by both Hindus and Sikhs for its religious significance. Set amidst towering cliffs and steaming hot springs, Manikaran is home to a revered Gurudwara and several ancient temples, making it a sacred pilgrimage site for devotees.

The hot springs of Manikaran are particularly renowned for their therapeutic properties, believed to cure various ailments and provide spiritual langar (community kitchen) at the Gurudwara, where free meals are served to purification. Visitors can take a dip in the hot waters and partake in the all, irrespective of caste, creed, or religion.

Apart from its religious significance, Manikaran is also a haven for food lovers, offering a delectable array of traditional Himachali cuisine, including the famous Himachali trout fish, siddu (steamed bread), and locally brewed rice beer.

        After seen this misty and sacred villages we moved ahead to Manali via Kullu village. We reached to Manali at 8:30 Pm and check in in a Hotel Swan which is very near to Mall road of Manali.  

       Manali : A Himalayan Heaven

        While we are in Hotel room, out side is snow falling. So we decided to had breakfast in hotel room and should wait until the snow falling will stop. After weather cleared we started to visit local places and snow valley's of beautiful Manali.

Manali is a place known for trekkers, for people with a zest for adventures such as zipline climbing, parasailing, river rafting, mountain biking, skiing and shooting and climbing snowcapped mountains.

        After taking Snow suit and Gum boots we stopped our car at Nehru kund due to heavy traffic. So we decided to do some activities here. Actually tourists towards Rohtang Pass and Solang Valley usually stop at Nehru kund to rest in nature's lap. The fresh water and serene Himalayan surroundings never fail to relax tired souls and ease tensed minds. Several photography lovers also visit this place to try and capture its beauty in a film. It is about 5 Km from the Manli and 7 Km from the Solang Valley and local vehicles are available form bus station and Mall Road of Manali.

Snow Valley of Manali

The following places are the must visit places in and around the Manali :-

1. Hidimba Devi Temple:

Dedicated to the goddess Hidimba, this ancient temple is built amidst cedar forests and is known for its unique architecture and serene surroundings.

2. Solang Valley:

Located about 14 kilometers from Manali, Solang Valley is a haven for adventure enthusiasts, offering activities like paragliding, zorbing, skiing (during winter), and ATV rides amidst breathtaking landscapes.

3. Rohtang Pass:

Situated at an altitude of 3978 meters, Rohtang Pass is a gateway to the Lahaul and Spiti valleys. It offers mesmerizing views of snow-capped peaks, glaciers, and pristine landscapes. Note: Access to Rohtang Pass is seasonal and subject to weather conditions.

4. Beas Kund:

This serene alpine lake is believed to be the source of the Beas River and is surrounded by towering peaks. It's a popular trekking destination offering stunning views of the Dhauladhar range.

5. Vashisht Hot Water Springs and Temple:

Located across the Beas River, Vashisht is known for its natural hot water springs, which are believed to have medicinal properties. The Vashisht Temple, dedicated to Sage Vashisht, adds to the spiritual aura of the place.

6. Old Manali:

A charming village located a short distance from Manali, Old Manali offers a laid-back vibe with its quaint cafes, vibrant markets, and traditional Himachali architecture. It's a great place to wander around and soak in the local culture.

7. Manu Temple:

Perched on a hilltop overlooking the Beas River, the Manu Temple is dedicated to Sage Manu, who is believed to be the creator of mankind according to Hindu mythology. The temple offers panoramic views of the valley and is steeped in history and spirituality.

8. Jogini Falls:

Located near Vashisht Village, Jogini Falls is a picturesque waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. A short trek from Vashisht leads to this natural marvel, making it a popular spot for picnics and relaxation.

9. Naggar Castle:

Situated on the banks of the Beas River, Naggar Castle is a historic structure that once served as the residence of the Kullu rulers. It now houses a heritage hotel and an art gallery showcasing the works of Russian artist Nicholas Roerich.

10. Great Himalayan National Park:

    A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Great Himalayan National Park is a paradise for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. It's home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including rare species like the snow leopard and Himalayan musk deer.

    These are just a few of the many enchanting places to explore in and around Manali. Each offers a unique experience, whether it's adventure, spirituality, or simply immersing oneself in the natural beauty of the Himalayas.

         Early morning, before snowfall we started our return journey to New Delhi. Its a 570 Km of long journey. after crossing of so many cities, towns and villages around at 8:00 Pm we reached Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi. we check in in a hotel room for two days and after had dinner we went to sleep early due to tiredness.

            A Day of Spiritual Exploration and Historical Wonders in Delhi

Early Morning Serenity at Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah:

        As the first rays of dawn illuminated the sky, we set out for Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, a revered Sufi shrine nestled in the heart of Delhi. The tranquil atmosphere enveloped us as we entered the complex, the rhythmic beats of qawwalis filling the air with a sense of spiritual bliss. We performed zarath, offering our prayers and seeking blessings for the journey ahead, before immersing ourselves in the mesmerizing aura of devotion that pervaded the surroundings.

Humayun's Tomb : A Testament to Mughal Grandeur :

        From the spiritual haven of Nizamuddin, we made our way towards the architectural marvel of Humayun's Tomb. a UNESCO World Heritage Site that stands as a testament to the architectural brilliance of the Mughal era. Walking through the intricately designed gardens and marveling at the symmetrical beauty of the mausoleum, we were transported back in time to an era of grandeur and opulence. The intricate carvings, delicate marble latticework, and serene charbagh layout left us awe-struck, as we soaked in the historical significance of this magnificent monument.

Ascending the Heights of Qutub Minar :

         Our next stop on this journey through Delhi's historical tapestry was the iconic Qutub Minar, the tallest brick minaret in the world. Boarding the Metro, we travelled through the bustling streets of Delhi, arriving at the Qutub Complex adorned with ancient ruins and architectural wonders. Standing in the shadow of the towering minaret, we marveled at the intricately inscribed verses from the Quran, tracing the centuries-old history etched into the red sandstone walls. Climbing the narrow staircase to the top, we were rewarded with panoramic views of the cityscape below, a fitting finale to our exploration of this architectural marvel.

        With the sun casting long shadows, we are tired so much, so after lunch we went to the hotel room around 3:30 PM. An hour of rest we moved to visit most beautiful place of New Delhi is Delhi Gate

Evening Stroll through Delhi Gate:

        As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the city, we embarked on a leisurely stroll through the historic Delhi Gate, one of the surviving gates of the walled city of Delhi. The bustling streets greeted us with their vibrant energy, adorned with colorful shops and bustling markets. We soaked in the vibrant atmosphere, savoring the sights, sounds, and flavors of Old Delhi, before bidding farewell to this enchanting corner of the city.

        At around 8:30 Pm we left to the hotel room. From the spiritual solace of Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah to the architectural splendors of Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar, and finally, the lively streets near Delhi Gate, our day in Delhi was a tapestry woven with threads of history, culture, and spirituality. Each moment was a testament to the city's timeless charm and the enduring spirit of its people.

        Continuing our journey through the vibrant streets of Delhi, the second day promised to be as enriching as the first. From the serene Lotus Temple to the majestic Jama Masjid and the iconic Red Fort, our day was filled with moments of spiritual introspection and awe-inspiring historical wonders. Join me as we delve into the highlights of our exploration.

Serenity in Architectural Splendor ( Lotus Temple): 

        With the first rays of sunlight painting the sky, we set out towards the Lotus Temple, a masterpiece of modern architecture and a symbol of unity and peace. Surrounded by lush greenery and nine tranquil pools, the temple's lotus-shaped domes beckoned us towards moments of quiet contemplation and reflection. The temple's serene ambiance and stunning architecture make it a popular destination for meditation, prayer, and contemplation.

A Magnificent Mughal Marvel (JAMA MASJID) :

        From the serenity of the Lotus Temple, we made our way to the bustling lanes surrounding Jama Masjid, It is One of the largest mosques in Delhi as well as in India, it's an architectural marvel built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Stepping into its grand courtyard, we were greeted by the sight of intricate marble arches and towering minarets reaching towards the heavens. Here, amidst the rhythmic chants of prayers, we found solace in the embrace of spirituality.

 Iconic Symbol of Mughals (Lal Qila):

        Our journey through Delhi's historical tapestry continued as we ventured towards the imposing walls of the Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of India's rich cultural heritage. Walking through its majestic gates, we were transported back in time to the era of Mughal grandeur, where every corner whispered tales of emperors and conquests.

        At evening after had tea and snacks we made our way to the Delhi Airport. At mid night we arrived in Hyderabad Airport and transported directly to Gadwal in our vehicle with tour memories etched  in our hearts.

"The Himalayas welcomed us with its majestic beauty and adventurous spirit. We travelled winding roads, crossed gushing rivers, and explored hidden valleys, immersing ourselves in the raw magnificence of nature.

After that we bid farewell with cherished memories of breathtaking landscapes, cultural treasures, and spiritual revelations. From the tranquil hills of Shimla and Manali to the bustling streets of Delhi, each destination has left an indelible mark on our hearts and minds with capturing beautiful photographs."
