OOTY, KALPETTA, WAYANAD, MYSORE AND SRIRANGAPATNA - Another Bike Trip

" TRAVELLING - IT LEAVES YOU SPEECHLESS, THEN TURNS YOU INTO A STORY TELLER."

Hello friends, As well as every year when I am bored/stressed/Free. I would like to plan a trip and I should start my bike to find new destinations, in those some are cool and some are very dangerous. This way from last ten years I have planned so many trips with my friends and mostly all plans are successfully executed. In this way I kept a map in my phone and started my another trip on bike to see the breathtaking place of Karnataka,Tamil Nadu and Kerala with my best friend Naren.

From last ten years touring/Biking has become a passionate hobby to me and my friend Naren. Finally the perfect time came up, colleges are closed for Christmas holidays. So As we planned to cover this trip in six days, we left Gadwal in the early morning at 5:45 AM on Wednesday. It would be ideal time to start journey from Gadwal to Bangalore was always rather comfortable and after 8 hours of journey we reached Bangalore exactly at 2:00 PM with taking few breaks for tea and further moved towards Mysore.

Naren at Restaurant
Bangalore is a heavy traffic city, Its very difficult to bikers to ride in heavy traffic, almost we jammed in a fly over for one hour and finally after two hours of a struggle in traffic we escaped via Nice road and reached the out cuts of Bangalore at 4:00 PM. We find a Hotel,  then we parked our bikes and after getting fresh up we had our lunch in a Vegetarian Restaurant. while we are very hungry, they served very delicious food for us and we are very happy with their service.

Around 4:30 PM we resumed our ride towards Ramanagara, Channapatna, Mandya and Srirangapatna then finally we reached Mysore city at 9:00 PM. At evening time when we are about 60 Km away from Mysore rain drops are fallen but luckily its not converted to heavy rain. I have to say thanks to God because we are travelling on bikes with luggage.

Aju at Srirangapatna
In this trip our first stop was a Mysore, where we stayed for a night, we searched for a hotel in OYO App and find a hotel room beside of main road. we check in a Hotel Named  Naidile Mahal which is good for night stay but food is not available. If we ordered they should take from a neighbour Restaurant. We also ordered like same and had dinner with good tasty, spicy food." First day we covered totally 600 Kms Distance."

Gundalpet - Ooty Road
Early morning at 6:30 AM when the whether was cloudy we started our bike journey to Gundalpet which is 60 Km away from here. After one hour of ride we stopped and had breakfast in Hotel Udyan Bhavan. I suggest that it is the best hotel in Gundalpet for best breakfast. After staying half an hour, we moved towards ooty which is 68 Km away from Gundalpet. While our ride I found some roads are rough and too dark to drive due to heavy fog. It was alost 9:00 AM but there was too dense and misty to move ahead. After a few hours of desperate turns and snaps we finally reached the place of 36/36 hair pin bends of Ooty.

Naren while we stopped for Tea
Here I saw some sign boards of caution like " Drive slowly", "Accident zone", "Hair pin bends ahead", and "Steep Curve ahead". Then finally a big board read "36/36 hair pin bends" looking at the board, I could make out that there would be 36 hair pin bends ahead and Ooty was around 18 Km away now. First couple of hair pin bends were just like any other normal ones which I had seen lots but then when the third one passed, I could feel some fear within myself. I thought "the coming hour does not seem to be an easy one." By this time we had crossed couple of hair pin bends in this way bike was roaring and taggling between first and second gears.

Beautiful View from top of the Ooty

After passing some hair pin bends we stopped our bikes besides the road and watched the real beauty of Ooty which clouds are passing behind us. Its mind blowing and breathtaking scenery. This place was simply amazing. For a few moments, I was speechless. This view will be kept in my mind forever. Further we captured some photographs behind the clouds and moved to our today's destination.

Without wasting my further time, I concentrated on the road ahead and on the mission to reach the top of the hill. After passing 36 hair pin bends we reached city center of Ooty. We find a hotel named Hotel Charming Cross and checked in a hotel room then after fresh up we taken some rest and went to visit the beautiful places of Hill town.

View from out hotel room
Beside of our hotel Mall road is there. The Mall road is the mecca of woolen clothes in Ooty and we can get very good and stylish stuff at a good price. We are also bought a good jackets at amazing price. It is located in the city center, this is popular for hand made chocolates, winter wear, shawls, fashion accessories and more. Here I also purchased a woolen cap for my mom.

The trip ought to be thrilling, adventurous, scenic, and of course be worth enough to spent precious weekend on, the to be techies agree on this. Gadwal to Ooty on bikes is trip that offers all these. Ooty is a great destination to visit all year round, it is best to avoid monsoon season. Ooty receives heavy rainfall during the monsoon and the rains can make riding very dangerous.

Aju at Botanical Garden

We planned our trip include refreshment stops, fuel stations, places of interest and share some itinerary with other bikers. From Ooty it is the familiar route via Pykara, Gudalur and sulthan Bathery. We did not stop much for photos or any thing else. The traffic was almost non existent after Gudalur and the scenery was lush green. Mild rains gave company intermittently.

Hotel Alakkal Residency

After a few hours of desperate turns and snaps, we finally reached Kalpetta. We find a hotel OYO ALAKKAL RESIDENCY and In a few minutes, we completed check in. By the time we reached the hotel it was 12:30 PM, Friday. After fresh up I told to Naren, you stay here i will go to mosque for pray Namaz, he agreed. So I went to mosque which is just beside of the Hotel. After that we went out from hotel room and searched for a good vegetarian hotel because it was time for us to listen to our stomach. In Kerala, no matter what it is very rare sight you find a good veg hotel. luckily we were able to find a Udipi hotel very near to our hotel room. We had lunch there and moved to see the beauty of wayanad

Here are some places can be visited in Kalpetta and Wayanad:

                                1.  Pookode Lake                     5.  Banasura Sagar Dam
                                2.  Lakkidi View Point            6.  Sochipura Water falls

                                4.  kuruva Island

Wayanad, a wonderful district in the north-east of Kerala state, India! Wayanad is very scenic with a lot of trees and hills all over. Complete with misty mountains, splendid forests, pristine rivers and cascading waterfalls, Wayanad is ‘the’ hill station of choice in South India. Not particularly touristy, the district is famed for its wildlife parks and unspoilt nature. Ancient temples enclosed by mountains and forests bring reverence and mysticism to the region. Trek to mountain-top lakes and caves, bamboo raft through rivers and cycle around winding roads to make the most of this spectacular North Kerala region. For the best views of Wayanad, however, you’d best take a bike tour through the paddy fields and small hamlets around.

If you’re planning to visit Wayanad, let me tell you, this hill station is rich in its flora and fauna. It comprises mainly of tea-coffee plantations and it is full of green valleys, dense forests and amazing wildlife. Thinking of the alluring greenery, a road trip to Wayanad, is the best option thus, I opted for a bike ride. I planned this trip with my friends. Also, Wayanad does not have a train station and the nearest station is Kozhikode (Calicut), at a distance of 77 Kms from Wayanad, thus travelling by your own vehicle or hiring a cab is feasible. It is bordered by Karnataka to north and north-east & Bangalore to Wayanad is approximately 301 Kms.

The most exciting part of our Gadwal to Wayanad road trip was our scenic drive through the Bandipur and Mudumalai forests. But once we entered the Wayanad region, almost every place was scenic with lush green forests.

Pookode Lake
This is a amazing Natural fresh water lake in Wayanad. This lake is located at about 15 km away from Kalpetta. There are boating facilities which is one of the major activity/ attraction at Pookode lake that draws the attention of many tourists. The boats arranged for the boating services are pedal and row boats. The place, including the lake and its surrounding areas are well maintained, such that they resonate the unspoiled beauty of nature.

Other places of interest for tourists visiting this lake includes the fresh water aquarium, children's park and shopping center. You should shop for the local handicrafts and hand made articles. In fresh water aquarium there is a fish spa center. if we should pay Rs.50 they allowed for fish spa for 10-15 minutes. I had it. That was amazing experience while small fishes are surrounds and bites our foots.

We visited another view point named Lakkidi View Point. Lakkidi is the gateway to Wayanad, another beauty at Gods own country. It was the site of paradise of earth. This is located at 16 Kms away from Kalpetta. This view point is one of the highest points in the district of Wayanad. Another visiting place in wayanad is Banasura Sagar Dam. It is the largest earthen dam in India and is also considered to be the second largest in Asia. It is located 21 Km from Kalpetta. The splendid views as you find yourself surrounded by the Banasura Hill is spellbinding. Not just the visual beauty, the place offers several fun activities for you to enjoy with your family and friends.

Another tourist spot in Wayanad is Edakkal caves. It is an anthropological, prehistoric and fascinating place. It is 25 Km aways from Kalpetta and 12 Km away from Sulthan Bathery. The walls of Edakkal caves were covered with various engravings, prehistoric line drawings. It is said that Edakkal caves is the only known place for stone age carvings in south india.

No doubt that Wayanad is abundantly gifted with its natural beauty. It will be a perfect place for the people who love nature. Wayanad has become a most visiting tourist place in Kerala since some years. Many wonders and surprises will be waiting for you if you plan to visit Wayanad. Ride through forest road will be an adventure for tourists who love adventures. We cannot explain in words about the beauty of Kuruva dweep,  Soochipara waterfalls, Chembara peak, tea estates covered with mist etc.

We stayed for night in Kalpetta and next day we woke up early and started our journey from Kalpetta to Mysore via Mudumalai National Park and Bandipur Forest. While we entered in these forests guards collected entry toll at check point then we entered into the forest area. The ambiance completely changed once we entered the silent, calm and dark forest area. The roads were extremely good and we tempted to drive fast but there were animals crossing warning signs every where and we too didn't want an encounter with animals.

We decided to drive slowly looking for animals on both sides of the roads. We also saw while the two deers and four elephants were crossing the road before our bikes on that time we are all riding 15 bikes at a time. After few hours of long drive through this forest some riders are dispatched to other routes and only three  are came with us up to Mysore.

Entrance of Mysore Palace

Directly at 10:30 AM we reached Mysore palace. We parked our bikes at parking area and taken entry pass and entered into the main premises of Mysore palace. This is one of the most magnificent
and largest palaces in India. It used to be the official residence of the Wodeyar Dynasty, the rulers of Mysore from 1399 to 1950. In this palace they reserves various valuable possessions of wodeyars which includes souvenirs, jewelry, royal costumes and paintings. There is also museum housed within the walled complex, called the Residential museum. After more than two hours of stay in palace we had lunch in nearby hotel and moved to Srirangapatna.

Mysore Palace
We visited only Dariya Daulat bagh in Srirangapatna due to not having more time. Dariya Daulath Bagh was Tipu Sultan's summer palace and a unique thing about this particular building is that its almost entirely made up of Teak wood surrounded by a lush green garden with rows of fountains in the middle.

There is a museum in the center of the palace where there are some Tipu memorabilia like the silk dress he wore along with the hat, coins, arms and ammunition's etc. In this palace most interest thing is paintings which was showed the war between Hyder ali, his son Tipu Sultan and Britishers.

After had tea before the Palace at 4:30 PM we started our return journey to Bangalore. After sunset we found too much traffic in out cuts of Bangalore city. So we came through outer ring road and we reached Yelahanka at 8:00 PM and check in a hotel room and stayed for over night here. Next morning at 7:00 AM we moved to our home town Gadwal which is 400 Km away from here. After two hours of journey we  had breakfast and sat down for some rest in a road side shelter. After that we continues our ride up to six hours by taking some refreshments stops and finally at 3:00 PM we reached our home town as well as our homes.

KIA Motors India at Ananthapur District, Andhra Pradesh
It was uneventful ride. It was truly one of the best rides in my life. I am sure to say that I saw those amazing scenery, great roads with great curves. I would recommended all bikers should do a ride to this heaven on this earth and also this trip gives me a opportunity to meet many wonderful bikers and bloggers.

" A Traveller ( Shaik Azam Mohammed) was kept so many unforgettable and mesmerised memories in his small and beautiful life through this amazing and speechless bike trip."
